For Week 3 of #WorldwideWednesday, to celebrate American’s Independence Day, we’re heading home to the Northeastern region of the United States.
If this is your first time joining Map to Magic Vacation’s #WorldwideWednesday, welcome! We’ll be recreating meals from virtually every country/region of the world that you can enjoy while doing some virtual travel.
NEXT STOP: (NE) USA!
This week, we cooked up mini versions of some of our favorite summertime eats: Philly Cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and pastrami sandwiches.
While only Philly cheesesteaks actually originated in the northeast, its safe to say that each has become a northeast staple with several famous spots given each their own twist. Here’s ours:
1/2 lb of Pastrami
1 bag of sauerkraut
Whole wheat bread
Spicy brown mustard
DIRECTIONS: Toast four pieces of whole wheat bread or the bread of your choosing. Once toasted cut all four pieces into fourths (enough for 8 mini sandwiches). Dab your eight mini bread squares with the spicy brown mustard, before topping with two pieces of pastrami and a spoonful of sauerkraut.
1 bag of hot dug buns (use half the bag for your mini hot dogs)
1/2 lb of roastbeef
1/4th of an onion, sliced
2 slices of cheddar cheese
DIRECTIONS: Cut half of the bag of hot dog buns in half (about 6-8 mini cheesesteaks). Sliced the roast beef into strips. Slice the onion and sauté in a tablespoon of olive oil. Once soft, add the roast beef to the pan and cook until slightly crisp. As soon as you turn off the heat, add the slices of cheese and stir until mixed into onion/roast beef mixture. Spoon onto half rolls.
We can’t wait to see your own mini summer creations! – Share your food photos below or post to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the #MaptoMagicVacations and #WorldwideWednesday hashtags.
And once you’ve finished, enjoy your self-made hors d’oeuvres while you virtually travel the Northeast.
